Budget FY19: Prices up, prices down

Different products will be costlier and cheaper as Finance Minister AMA Muhith on Thursday in the new budget proposed some changes to tariff on those.

Besides, the finance minister also proposed imposition of 5 per cent VAT on e-commerce and digital business platforms such as facebook, google, youtube etc in the budget for fiscal 2018-19.

Price will be decreased: locally assembled cellular phone, cheap loaf, bread, buns, handmade biscuits and cakes, cheap sandals and slippers made of rubber and plastic, hybrid motor car, raw material of motorcycle, tyre and tube, filled milk powder, refrigerator, air-conditioner and compressor, raw material of active pharmaceutical ingredient, software and ball point pen, reports BSS.

On the other hand, the products that will be costlier are: imported mobile and other battery charger, energy drinks, coffee, Green Tea, sugar confectionary, UPS/IPS (capacity up to 2,000 VA), voltage stabiliser (capacity up to 2,000 VA), automatic circuit breakers, lamp-holders, used/old vehicle and bicycle, cosmetic and beauty products, toiletries, perfumes (except attar), body sprays and similar items (except automatic vapour), cigarette and bidi, bathtubs, zacuji and shower trays, all kind of polythene and plastic bags etc.
