Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has set maximum monthly fees for broadband internet connections countrywide.
The new ceilings are: Tk 500 for 5 Mbps, Tk 700 to Tk 800 for 10 Mbps, Tk 1,100 to Tk 1,200 for 20 Mbps, reports bdnews24.com.
“It’s a memorable day of my life, a milestone in (in the journey to) building a Digital Bangladesh,” Post and Telecommunication Minister Mustafa Jabbar said at a virtual event to unveil the “One Country, One Rate” tariff on Sunday.
Post and Telecommunication Secretary Md Afzal Hossain said the new rates reflect the government’s commitment to take the internet access to the rural areas.
Shyam Sunder Sikder, chairman of BTRC, and representatives of the internet service providers were also present.
