BTRC claims slow internet due to ‘technical issues’

The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) claims that the mobile internet has been interrupted because of ‘technical issues’ and not because of a government order.

“Technical issues are causing mobile internet problems across the country,” said BTRC Senior Assistant Director Zakir Hossain Khan.

“The authority is working to resolve this problem”, as per bdnews24.com.

He could not say when the problem would be resolved.

These ‘technical problems’ developed amid various rumours spreading on social media surrounding the safe roads campaign by students.

Telecom officials said there were no ‘technical issues’ and that the problems developed due to an order to ‘reduce internet speed’ to 1.28kbps.

Mobile 3G and 4G internet services were shut on Saturday evening.

“No such order has been given,” BTRC’s acting Chairman Jahurul Haque told bdnews24.com on Saturday.

According to ICT specialists, photos cannot be uploaded to Facebook at 1.28kbps speed. Users were having difficulties accessing several websites.
