A Bangladeshi youth was shot dead allegedly by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) along Rowmari border in northern Kurigram district.

The incident occurred near the sub-pillar-3 of international border pillar-1,062 at Khatiamari border of Sadar Union of the upazila at around 1.30 am on Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Hasinur Rahman Chand, 25, who was the son of one Abul Hashem of Khatiamari village under the upazila.

Rowmari Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Montashir Billah said Chand along with some others went to the border area at night.

At one point of patrolling, the BSF members who belong to the Kusnimara camp of the 6th Battalion opened fire on Chand’s group, Mr Billah alleged.

The on-duty physician of Rowmari Upazila Health Complex declared Hasinur dead when his companions took him to the hospital, the OC added.

Chand, who had been named in several drug cases, was once imprisoned in a narcotic case, the police official said.
