The Indian Border Security Force (BSF) killed a Bangladeshi cattle trader along Baura frontier area in Patgram upazila of Lalmonirhat on Saturday.
The BSF members also dragged away the body into Indian territory from pillar No. 802 at Dangatari point, said officer-in-charge of Patgram Police Station Sazzad Hossain.
The victim was identified as Asadul Haque, 30, son of Motiar Rahman Kadam of Nabinagar village in the upazila, reports UNB.
Quoting locals, Baura Union Parishad chairman Abul Kalam Azad Bashunia said 10-15 cattle traders in association with some Indian cattle traders were smuggling cattle.
Sensing the illegal activities, a patrol team of BSF-143 Raninagar Battalion from New Kuchlibari Camp fired two gunshots around 4 pm leaving Asadul dead on the spot, Abul Kalam said.
Meanwhile, commander of Border Guard Bangladesh Rangpur-51 BGB battalion Lt Col Mostafizur Rahman confirmed the killing saying that they have sent a protest letter to the BSF.
