BSCIC asked to increase salt production for Eid-ul-Azha

The Ministry of Industries (MoC) has directed the authorities of BSCIC to increase the production of salt considering the growing demand during the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha.

Under the move, all the industrial units of Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) have been functioning day and night for producing sufficient amount of salt aiming to ensure smooth supplies of salt during the upcoming festival, an official said.

"We have directed to all our industrial units to keep the production of salt running to ensure smooth supply of the item during the Eid-ul-Azha," Chairman of BSCIC Md Mustaq Hasan told The Financial Express (FE) on Monday.

He said necessary directives were given to the districts BSCIC offices to prepare lists of dealers, retailers and wholesalers of salt traders at district and upazila levels.

He said that once the lists are prepared, it will be handed over to the traders, orphanages and those who are involved in removing skins of sacrificial animals at district and upazila levels.

The demand for edible and industrial salt during Eid-ul-Azha is around 0.1million tonnes.

At present, there are about 0.18 million tonnes of salt being stockpiled only at mills.

Besides, around one million tonnes of salt are being prepared at the field level.

"There will be no crisis of salt in the country during the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha," Mr Hasan asserted.
