BRTA files 2,108 cases against vehicles, 2.96m fined in January

Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) filed a total of 2,108 cases and realised over Tk 2.96 million in fines in January 2021 for violating traffic rules.

The number of mobile court drives of the transport authority had led in January was 235, according to a monthly report of the transport regulator.

The report also shows that the number of mobile court drives of the BRTA was 206, which stood at 235 in November.

Apart from this, the courts also jailed 28 people for violating traffic rules in January this year while 11 vehicles were dumped.

As many as 29 vehicles were dumped and 22 people were jailed for violating traffic rules in December, adds the report, while 12 vehicles were dumped and nine people were jailed in November 2020.

The BRTA conducts mobile court drives regularly across the country with a view to bringing discipline and order on the roads.

It lodged the cases as per the new Road Transport Act 2018 and other laws.

The transport regulator also filed 864 cases against vehicles and realised over Tk 1.92 million in fines for violating traffic rules during different drives in January 2020.
