BRT site accident: Chinese co pays Tk 14m to victims

The Chinese company, found responsible for the tragic accident at a BRT construction site in the capital's Uttara area, has recently provided Tk 14 million as compensation to the victims.

Managing Director of Dhaka Bus Rapid Transit Company Ltd M Shafiqul Islam said the compensation has already been handed over to the victims' family members.

As the five victims belonged to three families, the fund has been handed over to the three families. The injured family members have also received part of the fund.

An inquiry committee, formed under the Road Transport and Highways Division, conducted a three-week investigation. It found China Gezhouba Group Company responsible for the accident, in which a girder fell on a running private car on Jasimuddin Avenue on August 15. Five people, including two children, were killed in the accident. Two other family members were injured.

The High Court afterwards issued a rule to pay Tk 10 million as compensation to each of the five victims' families.
