PABNA, Oct 29: Bridge over the Gazony Beel is lying unused for long time due to absence of link road.
It is causeing untold suffering for thousands of commuters at Hatkhali union under Suzanagar upazila in the district.
Due to absence of link road with upazila headquarters from the area, thousands of people including students, traders and patients have to go upazila headquarters using another distanct road spending more time and money.
The inhabitants of the area are seeking immediate step to construct the road from the Shagota village of Hatkhali union immediately.
A vendor in the Suzanagar area said he was unable to send the raw materials including vegetable from the village to upazila due to absence of a road. He sought government assistance several time to construct the road as early as possible, he added.
According to upazila project implement office source a concrete bridge was built here over Gozony Beel spending Tk 3.3 million to smooth the communication of students, traders, rickshaw, van, three wheelers, truck and buses in 2017.
But, in absence of link road the commuters of the region have been dissolved as they are to pay more money and time to reach upazila headquarter from the region for performing their daily necessary work.
Saiful Islam, a student of Pabna Government College, said he goes to his college daily spending Tk 40 but if the authority concern makes the road here, he will save Tk 30 every day.
Upazila chairman of Hatkhali union under Suzanagar upazila Md Habubur Rahman said he informed the matter of sufferings of the thousands of common people but did not receive any response yet.
Upazila project implementation officer Rezaul Karim said, the bridge was constructed here before his joining so he was unaware of the matter.
He already has written a letter to the higher authority to construct a road immediately after knowing the matter, he added.
