Road communication has been disrupted since Tuesday morning following the collapse of a bailey bridge on Dhaka-Barishal highway in Gaurnadi upazila of Barishal.
Locals said the incident took place when an overloaded truck was passing through it and halted the communication of several southern districts with the capital, causing immense sufferings to people.
The vehicles have to take a 20 km detour using Poysharhat, Kotalipara in Gopalganj road to reach its destinations, intensifying the woes of the passengers.
However, the authorities concerned are taking necessary steps to build an alternative road for the route, reports UNB.
Sheikh Atier Rahman, officer-in-charge of Gaurnadi Highway Police, said the baily bridge in Ellaa area collapsed around 6 am when sand-laden truck was passing through it.
People have been asked to use Poysharhat, Kotalipara in Gopalganj district, he said.
Some people are using Madaripur and Bhanga upazila in Faridpur district to reach their destination, he added.
