JOYPURHAT, July 12: Boro paddy farmers are delighted over good market price in Joypurhat district.
Due to favourable climate condition and timely supply of necessary agri-input, the farmers of the district had achieved over 0.5 million tonnes of yield, said sub-assistance agriculture officer Azizul Islam.
Among them they had sold some 0.3 million tonnes of paddy to pay the harvesting, irrigation and fertiliser cost during the early stage of the harvesting, he added.
Wholesaler from the differnt district visits the locality in a view to purchase the crop with satisfactory price from the growers directly. Every day more than 40 loaded truck have been sent across the county from Akkelpur, Kalai, Khetlal, Pachbibi and sadar upazilas.
The farmers are processing the paddy variety with much enthusiasm as they are earning Tk 1000 to 1200 selling each maund of the crops this season.
Both farmers and hoarders are mostly benefited simultaneously keeping the paddy this season as they are getting double price compare to harvesting period.
He cultivated paddy on ten bighas of land spending Tk 1, 35,000 this season, said farmer Hafijul Islam, 45, at Diyol village under Akkelpur upazila adding that he got some 250 maunds of fresh yield.
In a recent visit at different hat and bazar of the district the correspondent found each maund of thin paddy variety is being sold at Tk 1,200 to 1,400 while Tk 1,000 to 1,100 course one. The hoarded are expecting to sell them in high price next month.
The farmers have grown the paddy variety in a huge amount and getting satisfactory market price said Deputy Director of Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) Sudhundranath Roy. DAE also provided all sort of necessary agri-input to make the farming a grand success, he added.
