A total of 15 Bangladeshis were killed and 15 others injured in incidents of violence along Bangladesh’s border with India in 2018, according to a local independent rights body.

However, the number of deaths was lower than that of 2017, when 24 people were killed and 35 injured in such violence, said the Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) in its report.

ASK report noted that the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) shot eight people dead in 2018 while six were physically tortured to death in the border areas.

It did not mention how the 15th person had died.

The report also showed that there was a significant decrease in the number of kidnappings on the border in 2018, when 13 people were kidnapped as against 40 in 2017.
