BOGURA, Mar 17: Lentil growers in the district are delighted as they have achieved a bumper production this season.
A good number of farmers said they started harvesting the crop from the last week of February and it will continue until the last week of March.
Lentil cultivation started after the harvest of the T-Aman paddy. Both the organic and chemical fertilsers were used in the cropland.
The growers said lentil farming is popular among the cultivators across the district due to its high demand.
It is a short-duration crop as the growers can take their crop home after 90 to 100 days of the farming.
Fertile Jamuna riverbed is well-known for producing quality lentil in the area.
The newly-harvested raw lentil has already appeared in the market. It is being sold between Tk 55 and Tk 60 in the retail market while the wholesale rate is Tk 50 to Tk 55.
Some local traders said the rate varies according to the quality of the item.
DAE officials said grassroots growers should bring more land under the cultivation of lentil for more profit.
