BNP candidate wins Brahmanbaria-2 constituency

BNP leader Abdus Sattar Bhuiyan, the Jatiya Oikya Front candidate for the Brahmanbaria-2, has won the parliamentary constituency after re-voting in three centres.

Ukil Abdul Sattar bagged 83,997 votes while his nearest rival independent contender Moyeenuddin Moyeen polled 75,419, said Retuning Office and Deputy Commissioner of the district Hayat Ud-dola Khan Wednesday evening.

The returning officer announced the results after re-voting in three centres, where voting was postponed on December 30 due to various irregularities, report UNB and bdnews24.com.

Earlier, the re-balloting in the three centres -- Jatrapur Govt Primary School, Bahadurpur Govt Primary School and Sohagpur Dakkhin Govt Primary School -- started at 8am and continued till 4pm.

On December 30, the announcement of the results was postponed as the number of votes in the three centres was higher than the difference between the two leading candidates' tallies.

Abdus Sattar had taken a lead of 10,159 in 129 centres bagging 82,723 votes against Moyeen's 72,564 while the number of voters in the three centres was 10,574.
