BMP protests for increase in reserved seats for women

Bangladesh Mahila Parishad (BMP) on Saturday protested for the increase in reserved seats for women in the parliament by one third and for holding direct poll.

The parliament, on July 8 last year, unanimously passed the Constitution (17th Amendment) Bill 2018, enhancing the tenure of women lawmakers for 50 reserved seats.

The BMP also demanded the end of continuous torture on women across the country.

The women’s human rights organisation came up with the demand at a human chain in front of National Press Club in the capital.

BMP president Ayesha Khanam and BMP General Secretary Maleka Banu, among others, spoke on the occasion.

A total of 460 representatives from 53 districts took part in the programme.
