Canada has intended to establish a blue ribbon committee, jointly sponsored by business chambers and private sectors, to propose concrete steps to further enhance the bilateral economic interest with Bangladesh.

The North American country made the proposal at the fourth bilateral consultation between the two countries in Dhaka on Sunday. This proposal was well appreciated by the Bangladesh side, a press release said.

During the meeting, Bangladesh side deeply appreciated the strong position adopted by the Canadian Government on Rohingya issue.

Bangladesh also urged Canada to remain seized with the humanitarian crisis until a peaceful solution.

The host country also emphasised on deportation of Nur Chowdhury, the self confessed and convicted killer of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Both sides agreed to continue with their discussions on this issue in the next round of meeting.

Bangladesh and Canada both expressed commitments to the Paris Agreement on climate change.

Canada expressed its interest to support Bangladesh with its initiatives by providing funding through Asian Development Bank.

The next round of Bilateral Consultation between the two countries will take place at a mutually convenient date and time in Ottawa, Canada.
