BIWTC suspends ferry services on Shimulia-Banglabazar route

Bangladesh Inland and Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) has suspended ferry services on the Shimulia-Banglabazar route for an indefinite period from Wednesday afternoon due to a strong current in the Padma River.

BIWTC’s Assistant Director-General Shafiqul Islam gave the information on Wednesday, reports UNB.

However, passenger launches can continue operations in the river.

On August 13, the government suspended the movement of ferries on the route at night time to avoid accidents.

Five ferries have operated since Wednesday morning on the route.

Passengers and vehicles have been asked to use alternative Paturia-Doulatdia and Chandpur-Shariatpur routes for river crossing.
