Biman suspends flights to Saudi Arabia for a week

Biman Bangladesh Airlines has suspended its flights to Saudi Arabia for a week from today, Monday, the national flag career has said in a media statement.

The move follows the Saudi government’s flight ban over the Covid-19 pandemic, read the statement issued on Monday.

Passengers of the cancelled flights will be allotted seats on a priority basis once flights to Saudi Arabia reopen, according to the statement.

Biman operates flights to Jeddah, Riyadh and Dammam in Saudi Arabia, from Dhaka.

Late on Sunday, Saudi Arabia suspended all international passenger flights for a week in response to the emergence of a potent new strain of the virus in the UK and other European countries, Arab News reports.

Entry to the Kingdom through land and sea ports has also been suspended and this period may be extended by another week, according to the report.

Some flights, however, will be allowed in exceptional circumstances, the Saudi newspaper points out, citing state news agency Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
