A 27-year-old biker returning home died while his friend riding pillion sustained injuries in a collision with a speeding truck in the Jahangir Gate area of the capital in the early hours of Thursday.
The deceased was identified as Md Nayeem, son of Abu Taher, a resident of the city's Dakshinkhan area, reports UNB.
Police said the accident occurred between Jahangir Gate and Mohakhali Flyover around 1:30am. The impact of the crash was such that Nayeem died on the spot. His friend, Mehedi, sustained injuries in the accident.
Nayeem was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where doctors declared him dead on arrival. His friend is currently undergoing treatment at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital.
Md Bachchu Mia, in-charge (inspector) of the police outpost at DMCH, said the body has been kept in the hospital morgue for an autopsy.
