The teenage girl who suffered serious burn injuries along with her sister after criminals attacked them with acid in Bhola Sadar upazila on May 14, died at CRP Hospital in Mirpur early Sunday.
The deceased Tanjim Akhter Mala, 16, daughter of Mohammad Helal of Uttar Digholdi in Sadar upazila, and her sister Marzia, 8, sustained serious burn wounds when unidentified miscreants poured acid on them while they were sleeping in the early morning on May 14.
The injured were admitted to Bhola Sadar Hospital at first.
As their condition deteriorated, they were referred to CRP Hospital in the capital’s Mirpur area on May 17 where Mala succumbed to her injuries early in the morning.
Mala passed this year’s SSC examination with good result from Abdul Mannan Secondary School in the union and Marzia is a student of class 2 of another local school, says a UNB report.
Victims’ relatives said the two sisters went to sleep after taking their dinner.
Suddenly, family members got up hearing their screaming, as someone had thrown acid through the window around 2am, leaving the two sisters critically burned in the face, eyes and some other parts of the body.
A stalker named Rajib used to disturb Mala over mobile phone for long, although she rejected his proposal of love. Rajib could have thrown acid on the sisters, victim’s family said.
