BGB seizes smuggled goods, drugs worth Tk 649.0m last month

The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel seized smuggled goods and drugs, worth Tk 649.0 million from across the country last month.

Besides, 363 people were arrested for smuggling goods and drugs during this period, reports UNB citing a BGB handout issued on Sunday.

The statement said legal action was taken against 250 Bangladesh nationals and seven Indians for illegally crossing the border.

The seized contraband items include 9,03,289 pieces of Yaba pills, 54,588 bottles of phensidyl, 14,386 bottles of foreign liquor, 385 cans of beer, 1,487 kg hemp, 430 grams of heroin, 12,837 injections and different types of tablets.

The other seized smuggled goods are – 16.582 kg gold, 15.465 kg silver, a touchstone idol, 1,905 sets of imitation ornaments, 45,777 sets of cosmetics, 3,469 sarees,  379 sets of three pieces and, 3,049 readymade garments products, 4,286 kg tea leaves, 5,155 CFT wood, 16,900 kg coal, five trucks, six private cars, five pick-ups, 31 engine-run auto-rickshaws and 92 motorcycles.

The paramilitary force also seized six pistols, eight guns, one magazine, and 40 bullets during the period.
