BGB, BSF announce 8.3km crime free zone on Jessore border

Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB) and Border Security Force (BSF) have announced 8.3 kilometre of their common border area as a "Crime Free Zone".

The 8.3 kilometre crime free zone covers the areas under the jurisdiction of BGB's Doulatpur BOP of Putkhali in Jessore and the frontier areas under the jurisdiction of Kalyani and Gunarmath BOPs of India.

The announcement came from an inaugural ceremony held at 64 BSF Battalion in West Bengal of India, reports BSS.

Sheikh Afil Uddin, Member of Parliament (MP) from Jessore-1, Maj. Gen. Abul Hossain, the outgoing director general (DG) of BGB, and DG of Indian BSF K.K. Sharma were present at the function.

The neighbouring countries have 4156 kilometres common land border of which the southwest region shares 644 kilometres, including 259-km river boundary.

The remaining common border areas will be announced as "Crime Free Zone" gradually, the reports said.
