BD, Turkey talk Rohingya crisis

Dhaka and Ankara have discussed enhanced cooperation between the two Muslim nations to help solve Rohingya crisis that has affected Bangladesh severely.

M Allama Siddiki, Bangladesh Ambassador to Turkey, met Volkan Bozkir, President of the Turkish General National Assembly's Foreign Relations Committee, at the premises of the Turkish General National Assembly on Tuesday and discussed the issue.

The Ambassador also apprised the President of the consolidation of bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Turkey in recent times, said the embassy on Wednesday.

Volkant Bozkir while appreciating Bangladesh's recent progress in different fields hoped that the coming days would see intense engagements between the two sides.

He referred to the recent visit of the prime minister of Turkey to Bangladesh in this regard.

The two discussed various aspects of the existing friendly relations between the two brotherly countries.

Also, they agreed that there remains a huge potential in sectors like trade, economic transaction, cultural, educational as well as agricultural cooperation for the people.

UNB said they discussed ways and means to strengthen interactions among the parliamentarians of the two countries. The meeting was also the occasion to discuss foreign policy issues and priorities of the two friendly countries.

Former Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Turkey to the EU and Member of Parliament from Istanbul since 2011, President Bozkir was a Minister for EU Affairs in the 62nd and 64nd governments. He was appointed as President of the Foreign Relations Committee in December 2017.
