The number of confirmed coronavirus patients in Bangladesh surged to 221,178 on Saturday as the country registered 2,520 fresh cases in the last 24 hours.
Besides, 38 more people died from Covid-19 during the period. Among the fatalities, 29 were male and the rest were female, the health directorate said.
With the latest, the death toll from the lethal disease now stands at 2,874.
Nasima Sultana, additional director general (admin) at the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), disclosed the information while briefing the media live on the daily Covid-19 bulletin.
The fresh coronavirus infections were found after testing a total of 10,446 samples across the country, she said.
Besides, the recovery count also jumped to 122,090 after 1,114 patients were recovered during the period under review.
Globally, 15,956,438 people have been infected by the novel coronavirus and 643,041 people died as of Saturday noon, according to the worldometer.
Of them, 5,559,135 are currently being treated with 66,263 remain in serious or critical condition.
So far, 9,754,262 people have recovered.
