BCL leader Isha gets DU studentship back

The authorities of Dhaka University (DU) on Wednesday withdrew the expulsion order on Kabi Sufia Kamal Hall unit president of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) Iffat Jahan Isha.

The decision was taken from a disciplinary board meeting at DU with Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman in the chair.

"The expulsion order has been withdrawn as the allegations against Iffat were not proved. According to the probe committee report, the disciplinary board has taken the decision today," DU VC Akhtaruzzaman said.

DU Proctor Prof Dr AKM Golam Rabbani said the five-member probe committee formed to investigate the attack on female students at the female dormitory on April 11 found that the allegation of cutting tendon of a student is not true.

"Iffat was expelled earlier but the allegations against her were rumours. So she is getting back her studentship," Prof Rabbani said.

On April 11, DU authorities expelled Philosophy department student Iffat Jahan Isha for allegedly "torturing a female quota reform protester inside the hall."

Earlier on April 13, BCL reinstated Iffat as the president of Kabi Sufia Kamal Hall unit two days after expelling her from the organisation for allegedly assaulting female students for taking part in demonstrations for quota reform. BCL said it found Iffat Jahan Isha, "innocent" in its investigation.

Earlier on April 11, some photos of a female student at Kabi Sufia Kamal Hall went viral on the social media. The victim alleged that she was tortured by some female BCL leaders for taking part in the demonstrations. Other students of the dormitory rushed in and confined the BCL leader Esha and handed her over to the hall provost after humiliating her, reports BSS.
