‘BCL’ attack on quota reform movement leaders leaves six injured

At least six leaders of Bangladesh General Students' Rights Protection Council were injured in an attack allegedly by some Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activists on Dhaka University campus on Saturday.

The leaders of the council, the platform of students that led the quota reform movement, gathered in front DU central library to hold a pre-scheduled press conference to announce their fresh programme, some BCL activists suddenly launched an attack on them around 10:50 am, witness said.

At the time, they beat up three joint conveners of the council, Nurul Haq, Faruk Hossain, Hasan Al Mamun, and Convener of Surya Sen Hall unit of the organisation Arosh Ahmed.

Nurul Haq and Arosh Ahmed were undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Among them, condition of Nurul was stated to be critical, reports UNB.

Later, the BCL activists drove out the quota reform demonstrators form the area and took position at the library premises.

After the incident, Md Rashed Khan, a joint convenor of the council, announced an indefinite class and examinations boycott programme at all universities across the country.
