A fire broke out at the Bangladesh Bank headquarters in the capital city on Monday afternoon.

But fire fighters managed to douse the blaze within a few minutes.

A central bank official said to BSS, "The fire broke out on the 18th floor of the Bangladesh Bank's 30-storey building where our Financial Stability Department is housed . . . but it was doused immediately."

An official of the fire brigade control room said, "The fire broke out at 5.50pm at the central bank. There is a fire fighters' team on duty in front of the bank. The team rushed to the spot and doused the fire immediately."

He said the origin of the fire could not be ascertained immediately as an investigation is underway to find out the reasons and extent of damage caused by the fire.

Earlier on March 23, another fire broke out at the 13th floor of the 30-storey central bank building where the bank's foreign exchange policy department is housed.
