Bangladesh has approved a project involving an estimated cost of Tk 1.47 billion to construct a chancery building in Canberra, the capital city of Australia.

The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) approved the project on Wednesday. The ECNEC held its first meeting of the current fiscal on Wednesday with ECNEC Chairperson and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair, reports BSS.

Briefing reporters after the meeting, Planning Minister MA Mannan informed that the prime minister asked the authorities concerned to build the chancery in Canberra as per the rules and regulations of Australia.

At that time, the prime minister also recalled that Australia was the first among the OECD countries to recognise Bangladesh after the War of Independence.
