Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said that Bangladesh can emerge as a hub in South Asia due to its geographical location.

"Bangladesh can be a bridge between the East and West and we have a plan to connect Bangladesh with the rest of the world," she said.

Sheikh Hasina made the remarks while replying to a supplementary question during the Prime Minister’s question-answer session in the parliament on Wednesday.

The Prime Minister also said her government would give priority to connectivity if it comes to power next time, reports BSS.

"Connectivity network including construction of a deep sea port, an international airport and connecting Bangladesh with Asian Highway and Trans Asian Railway would get priority if we can come to power in the next term," she said.

The government has also a plan to construct a nuclear power plant in country’s southern part, she said.

"The government has already taken steps for construction of the deep sea port and it would do it," she said.

Sheikh Hasina said her government has attached importance to rural areas. The government wants to build every village as a town with all civic amenities, she said.

The Prime Minister said steps would be taken for setting up agro-based industries across the country, creating employment opportunities and boosting up agricultural production.

Rail line would be constructed from Padma Bridge to Barisal and it would be a mega project, she said adding that the rail line from Chattogram to Cox’s Bazar would be completed.
