The government spends US$4.0 billion annually to tackle the negative impacts of climate change and has declared a planetary emergency to raise awareness about environmental pollution.
Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Md Shahab Uddin said this while South Korean ambassador to Bangladesh Lee Jang-kyun paid a courtesy call on the minister's office in the capital on Thursday.
At the meeting, they discussed ways to work together on various issues, including tackling the effects of climate change, conserving the environment and biodiversity, and using renewable energy.
The environment minister asked for South Korea's help in implementing these activities.
The South Korean ambassador said Bangladesh is its close friend and the two countries are working on the basis of mutual cooperation.
He requested Bangladesh to support South Korea in hosting the COP-28 at the meeting
The ambassador also invited the environment minister to attend the Asia-Pacific Environment Ministers' Conference to be held in South Korea in October.
Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Md Mostafa Kamal, among others, was present at the meeting.
