Bangladesh reports one death from COVID-19 in 24 hours

154 people test positive, 157 people recover during the period

Bangladesh has registered a single new death from COVID-19 in a day, the lowest daily count since May 5, 2020, taking the total toll to 27,891.

The COVID-19 caseload rose to 1,570,835 as 154 people tested positive for the disease in the 24 hours to 8:00 am on Saturday, according to the latest government data, reports bdnews24.com.

Dhaka recorded the only fatality and 116 infections, the most among the eight divisions.

Nationwide, another 157 people recovered from the illness, bringing the total number of recoveries to 1,534,635.

As many as 13,072 samples were tested across the country, for a positivity rate of 1.18 per cent. The latest figures put the recovery rate at 97.7 per cent and the mortality rate at 1.78 per cent.

Globally, over 249.23 million people have been infected by the novel coronavirus and 5.04 million have died, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University.

Infections have been reported in more than 210 countries and territories since the first cases were identified in China in December 2019.
