Bangladesh reports no COVID-19 deaths in 24 hours

178 people test positive, 190 patients recover in the period

Bangladesh has registered no new deaths from COVID-19 in the past day for the first time since Apr 3, 2020. This means the death toll from the disease has remained unchanged at 27,946.

The coronavirus caseload rose to 1,573,889 as 178 people tested positive for the disease in the 24 hours to 8:00 am on Saturday, according to the latest government data, reports bdnews24.com.

Dhaka recorded the most cases among the eight divisions, logging 142 infections.

Nationwide, another 190 people recovered from the illness, bringing the total number of recoveries to 1,538,006.

As many as 15,107 samples were tested across the country, for a positivity rate of 1.18 per cent. The latest figures put the recovery rate at 97.72 per cent and the mortality rate at 1.78 per cent.

Globally, over 256.78 million people have been infected by the novel coronavirus and 5.14 million have died, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University.

Infections have been reported in more than 210 countries and territories since the first cases were identified in China in December 2019.
