Bangladesh reports lowest Covid-19 deaths since May 28

Bangladesh on Friday reported the death of 17 Covid-19 patients in a day – the lowest daily deaths since May 28, when the country had reported 15 deaths.

With the latest fatalities, the death toll from Covid-19 has reached 5,477.

The health authorities registered 1,278 new cases in the 24 hours to 8:00 am Friday. A total of 375,870 people have so far tested positive for COVID-19 in the country, report bdnews24.com and UNB citing a statement issued by the health directorate.

The number of recoveries outpaced active cases in the same period as another 1,596 patients recovered from COVID-19 through treatment at home and in hospital care. It brings the total to 289,912.

Globally, over 36.54 million people have been infected by the novel coronavirus and 1.06 million have died, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University.

Infections have been reported in more than 210 countries and territories since the first cases were identified in China in December 2019.
