Bangladesh reports 97 COVID-19 deaths in 24 hours

Bangladesh has registered 97 new fatalities from the coronavirus in a day, taking the death toll to 11,150.

The caseload surged to 748,628 after 3,306 people tested positive for COVID-19 in the 24 hours to 8:00 am Monday, according to data released by the government, reports bdnews24.com.

Another 4,241 people recovered from the illness through treatment at home and in hospital care, bringing the tally of recoveries to 661,693.

As many as 25,786 samples were tested across the country in the last 24 hours, yielding a positivity rate of 12.82 per cent.

The latest official figures put the recovery rate at 88.39 per cent, while the mortality rate stands at 1.49 per cent.

Globally, over 147.21 million people have been infected by the novel coronavirus and 3.11 million have died, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University.

Infections have been reported in more than 210 countries and territories since the first cases were identified in China in December 2019002E
