Bangladesh reports 4,559 new virus cases, 91 deaths in a day

Bangladesh has registered 91 new fatalities from the coronavirus in a day, taking the death toll to 10,588.

The caseload surged to 727,780 after 4,559 people tested positive for COVID-19 in the 24 hours to 8:00am Tuesday, according to data released by the government, reports bdnews24.com. 

Another 6,811 people recovered from the illness through treatment at home and in hospital care, bringing the tally of recoveries to 628,111.

As many as 27,056 samples were tested across the country in the last 24 hours, yielding a positivity rate of 16.85 per cent.


The latest official figures put the recovery rate at 86.31 per cent, while the mortality rate stands at 1.45 per cent.

Globally, over 142.11 million people have been infected by the novel coronavirus and 3.04 million have died, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University.

Infections have been reported in more than 210 countries and territories since the first cases were identified in China in December 2019.
