Bangladesh reports 17 virus deaths, 518 cases in a day

Bangladesh on Wednesday reported 518 Covid-19 cases while the virus claimed 17 lives in the last 24 hours, taking the total toll to 27,730.

The Covid-19 caseload rose to 1,564,019 as 518 people tested positive for the disease in the 24 hours to 8:00 am on Wednesday, according to the latest government data.

Dhaka registered the most daily deaths and new cases among the eight divisions, logging 13 fatalities and 393 infections, reports bdnews24.com.

Nationwide, another 505 people recovered from the illness, bringing the total number of recoveries to 1,525,673.

As many as 22,153 samples were tested across the country, for a positivity rate of 2.34 per cent. The latest figures put the recovery rate at 97.54 per cent and the mortality rate at 1.77 per cent.

Globally, over 238.79 million people have been infected by the novel coronavirus and 4.86 million have died, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University.

Infections have been reported in more than 210 countries and territories since the first cases were identified in China in December 2019.
