Bangladesh rejects Pakistan's claim over OIC declaration

Bangladesh has rejected Pakistan's claim over the Dhaka Declaration of the just-concluded OIC Council of Foreign Ministers.

Pakistan had claimed the declaration was not discussed with the member states and it only expressed Bangladesh’s own views.

Later, the foreign ministry of Bangladesh issued a notification on Monday with an explanation, reports bdnews24.com.

The foreign ministry said an original draft of the Dhaka Declaration was received from the General Secretariat of the OIC.

Some additional paragraphs were suggested by some member states, OIC-related organisations and the host country - Bangladesh.

The suggestions were included in the draft declaration prior to its adoption by the council.

But, the ministry said, no amendments were made to the original draft of paragraph 18 concerning which Pakistan has made the observations.

That paragraph was related to the Jammu and Kashmir issue.

Earlier, Pakistan High Commission in Dhaka issued a press release on Monday on the meet that ended in Dhaka the day before.

Bangladesh hosted the 45th session of the Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on May 5-6.

The event was held with the theme of 'Islamic Values for Sustainable Peace, Solidarity and Development'.
