Bangladesh registers 759 virus cases in a day, the lowest in nearly eight weeks

Bangladesh has registered 759 new COVID-19 cases, the lowest in a day since Jan 3, taking the total caseload to 1,941,816.

Another eight deaths from the coronavirus were recorded in a 24-hour count, with the toll from the disease rising to 29,024, according to the latest government data released on Saturday, reports bdnews24.com. 

As many as 18,305 samples were tested across the country, for a positivity rate of 4.15 per cent.

Among the eight divisions, Dhaka recorded the highest number of cases, with 526 infections.

Another 7,343 people recovered from the illness nationwide, bringing the total number of recoveries to 1,800,426.

The latest figures put the recovery rate at 92.72 per cent and the mortality rate at 1.49 per cent

Globally, over 433.16 million people have been infected by the novel coronavirus and 5.93 million have died, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University.

Infections have been reported in more than 210 countries and territories since the first cases were identified in China in December 2019.
