Bangladesh registers 30 more deaths, 1,499 new Covid cases in 24 hours

Bangladesh has witnessed deaths of 30 more people from Covid-19 in the past 24 hours, taking the total number of casualties to 5,375 since the first case of the virus hit the country on March 8, according to official data.

Besides, some 1,499 fresh infections were recorded during the period, pushing the total infections count to 371,631, according to a press release of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Tuesday.

A total of 1,651 coronavirus patients made recovery in the past 24 hours, the release added, saying that the total number of recoveries now stands at 284,833.

The recovery rate rose to 76.64 per cent while the death rate remained at 1.45 per cent, it read.

Of the deceased, 20 were men and 10 were women with 77.24 per cent death rate for men and 22.76 per cent for women, the release said, adding that all the deaths occurred at different hospitals.

Meanwhile, the country’s health ministry in its 109 authorised labs tested some 12,345 samples, taking the total number of sample tested across the country to over 2.0 million, according to the DGHS release.
