Bangladesh records lowest temperature of the season in Kurigram

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) on Sunday recorded the season’s lowest temperature of 5.5 degrees Celsius at Rajarhat upazila of Kurigram district.

For the last couple of days, Kurigram has been experiencing a mild cold wave, reports UNB.

A Met office bulletin, issued in the morning, said the temperature plummeted and now a severe cold wave is sweeping over Kurigram and Rajshahi districts.

A mild to moderate cold wave is sweeping over Mymensingh division and elsewhere over Rajshahi and Rangpur divisions as well as the regions of Tangail, Faridpur, Madaripur, Gopalgonj, Nikli, Srimangal, Khulna, Jashore, Chuadanga, Kushtia, Barishal, and Bhola districts.

It may continue, the bulletin said.

Ridge of Sub-continental high extends up to West Bengal and adjoining northwestern part Bangladesh. Seasonal low lies over South Bay.

The weather may remain dry over the country and moderate to thick fog may occur from midnight to morning.

Night temperature may fall slightly over Chattogram and Barishal divisions and it may remain nearly unchanged elsewhere over the country.

Day temperature may remain nearly unchanged over the country.

A cold wave sweeping over the district may persist for a few more days, said the in-charge of Kurigram Agricultural Meteorological Observatory.

The normal life of the people was also disrupted due to the cold wave, inflicting woes on the poor people.

The sun remained invisible in the day time.

The day labourers are suffering a lot as they cannot go out due in search of work which has been scarce.

Visibility became poor forcing vehicles to keep their headlights on in day time.

Kurigram Civil Surgeon Dr Habibur Rahman, said 61 people got admitted to different hospitals after being affected by cold-related diseases including pneumonia in the last 24 hours.
