Bangladesh records lowest daily cases in over five weeks

Bangladesh has registered 2,584 new Covid-19 cases, the lowest in a day since Jan 11, taking the total caseload to 1,929,154.

As many as 27,765 samples were tested across the country, for a positivity rate of 9.31 per cent.

The country also recorded 24 deaths from the coronavirus in a day, taking the total toll from the disease to 28,931, according to the latest government data released on Friday.

Among the eight divisions, Dhaka recorded the highest number of cases and deaths with 1,691 infections and 14 fatalities, reports bdnews24.com.

Another 9,988 people recovered from the illness nationwide, bringing the total number of recoveries to 1,737,854.

The latest figures put the recovery rate at 90.08 per cent and the mortality rate at 1.50 per cent.

Globally, over 419.98 million people have been infected by the novel coronavirus and 5.86 million have died, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University.

Infections have been reported in more than 210 countries and territories since the first cases were identified in China in December 2019.
