Bangladesh has opened a hotline for its citizens living in the Maldives after President Abdulla Yameen on Monday declared a state of emergency for 15 days.

Bangladeshis in Male have been asked to call the embassy on +9603320859 for any support. The embassy also asked them not to stay outside unnecessarily and avoid gatherings such as rallies, meetings, and processions, according to a bdnews24 report.

About 0.10 million (100,000) Bangladeshis work in the Maldives.

China, the United States, and India issued travel advisories for the Maldives, a country of 0.40 million (400,000) people best known as a beach paradise for tourists.
