Bangladesh not on US vaccine distribution list

Bangladesh is not included in the vaccine distribution list of the USA, said Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen said on Tuesday.

“The USA has made a list of around 30 countries, who will get their vaccines but we are not on the list,” the minister told newsmen.

The minister also said Bangladesh is not included in the list as the situation here is better than in many other countries

The US has decided to distribute its surplus stock of 80 million AstraZeneca vaccine to other countries.

“We have so far managed the pandemic situation in an efficient manner under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina” he added.

However, the minister said that the government is trying to pursue the US administration to provide at least 15 million AstraZeneca to ensure second dose vaccination of the people who already received the first dose.

He said that the agreement with China for vaccine procurement is almost finalised and under the agreement Bangladesh is expecting vaccine supply from June or July.

“We shall also finalise vaccine procurement deal with Russia very soon. We are now working on some nitty-gritty of the draft agreement” Dr Momen said responding to a question.

He also said as the transmission rate is on the rise in border areas of the country, the concerned authorities will soon meet take some measures to prevent it.
