Bangladesh may sue Al Jazeera for broadcasting 'false news', FM says

The government will try to take legal action against the Al Jazeera for broadcasting ‘false and fabricated’ news against Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as well as Bangladesh.

Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen disclosed the matter while talking to the newsmen at his office on Wednesday.

“We are exploring the avenues to take legal steps, the minister said adding that the Qatar-based news channel has lost its credibility for airing false news.

However, the minister said that the government has no plan to ban this media in Bangladesh.

Talking about a photo that shows that two persons stood behind Sheikh Hasina, the foreign minister said, "If someone is seen standing behind her, you cannot tell that he is her bodyguard,”

“Sheikh Hasina never appointed anybody as her bodyguard when she was in the opposition. Even during the August grenade attack, leaders and activists of her party gave her the protection, not any bodyguard,” Dr Momen explained.

The minister felt that the news against the prime minister was aired by the Al Jazeera to malign not only her but also Bangladesh as the country was making impressive performance socio-economically under her leadership.

We heard that some opposition elements spent huge money for broadcasting such false documentary, he said.

There are several examples that this channel has aired motivated news targeting Muslim countries.
