Bangladesh logs seven new virus deaths, 247 cases

Bangladesh has registered seven new deaths from COVID-19 in a day, taking the total toll to 27,887.

The COVID-19 caseload rose to 1,570,485 as 247 people tested positive for the disease in the 24 hours to 8 am on Thursday, according to the latest government data.

Dhaka recorded the most new deaths and cases among the eight divisions, logging three fatalities and 198 infections, reports bdnews24.com.

Nationwide, another 227 people recovered from the illness, bringing the total number of recoveries to 1,534,300.

As many as 18,690 samples were tested across the country, which yielded a positivity rate of 1.32 per cent. The latest figures put the recovery rate at 97.7 per cent and the mortality rate at 1.78 per cent.

Globally, over 248.22 million people have been infected by the novel coronavirus and 5.02 million have died, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University.

Infections have been reported in more than 210 countries and territories since the first cases were identified in China in December 2019.
