Bangladesh logs 78 virus deaths, 3,031 cases in a day

Bangladesh has registered 78 new deaths from the coronavirus disease in a day, taking the death toll to 11,228

The caseload surged to 751,659 after 3,031 people tested positive for COVID-19 in the 24 hours to 8 am Tuesday, according to data released by the government, reports bdnews24.com. 

Another 4,234 people recovered from the illness through treatment at home and in hospital care, bringing the tally of recoveries to 666,927.

As many as 24,237 samples were tested across the country in the last 24 hours, yielding a positivity rate of 12.51 per cent.


The latest official figures put the recovery rate at 88.73 per cent, while the mortality rate stands at 1.49 per cent.

Globally, over 147.89 million people have been infected by the novel coronavirus and 3.12 million have died, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University.

Infections have been reported in more than 210 countries and territories since the first cases were identified in China in December 2019.
