Bangladesh logs 56 new COVID cases in a day, no deaths

Bangladesh has recorded 56 new cases of COVID-19 in a day, taking the overall tally of infections to 1,951,770.

As no death was registered in the 24-hour count the death toll from the disease remained unchanged at 29,122, according to the latest data released on Sunday.

As many as 7,087 samples were tested across the country, for a positivity rate of 0.79 per cent.

Among the eight divisions, Dhaka recorded the highest number of cases, with 52 infections.


Another 596 people recovered from the illness nationwide, bringing the total number of recoveries to 1,883,510.

The latest figures put the recovery rate at 96.50 per cent and the mortality rate at 1.49 per cent.

Globally, over 490.77 million people have been infected by the novel coronavirus and 6.15 million have died, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University.

Infections have been reported in more than 210 countries and territories since the first cases were identified in China in December 2019, reports bdnews24.com.
