Bangladesh logs 13,154 fresh cases, 31 deaths in 24 hours

Covid claims 31 lives, infects 13,154 more

Bangladesh has recorded 13,154 new Covid-19 cases in a day, taking the total caseload to 1,811,987.

It also registered 31 deaths from the coronavirus in a day, taking the total death toll from the disease to 28,425, according to the latest government data released on Tuesday.

As many as 45,093 samples were tested across the country, for a positivity rate of 29.17 per cent, reports bdnews24.com.

Among the eight divisions, Dhaka recorded the highest number of cases and deaths with 7,930 infections and 19 fatalities. Chattogram recorded 1,667 cases and seven deaths.

Another 2,721 people recovered from the illness nationwide, bringing the total number of recoveries to 1,570,934.

The latest figures put the recovery rate at 86.70 per cent and the mortality rate at 1.57 per cent.

Globally, over 378.59 million people have been infected by the novel coronavirus and 5.67 million have died, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University.

Infections have been reported in more than 210 countries and territories since the first cases were identified in China in December 2019.
