Covid kills 33 more, infects 11,596 in 24 hours

Bangladesh has registered 33 deaths from the coronavirus in a day, taking the total death toll from the disease to 28,494.

It also recorded 11,596 new Covid-19 cases in a day, taking the total caseload to 1,835,776, according to the latest government data released on Thursday.

As many as 44,843 samples were tested across the country, for a positivity rate of 25.86 per cent, reports bdnews24.com.

Among the eight divisions, Dhaka recorded the highest number of cases and deaths with 6,984 infections and 18 fatalities. Chattogram recorded 1,512 cases and two deaths.

Another 5,955 people recovered from the illness nationwide, bringing the total number of recoveries to 1,581,092.

The latest figures put the recovery rate at 86.13 per cent and the mortality rate at 1.56=5 per cent.

Globally, over 385.38 million people have been infected by the novel coronavirus and 5.70 million have died, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University.

Infections have been reported in more than 210 countries and territories since the first cases were identified in China in December 2019.
