The Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) has imposed new restrictions on air travel from 11 countries to stop the spread of the Delta variant.

The countries included--Malaysia, Iran, Spain, Argentina, Botswana, Cuba, Cyprus, Eswatini, Georgia, Libya, and Mongolia. Meanwhile, Air Bubble flights will also remain suspended until further notice, CAAB added.

Bangladeshi citizens who have completed full doses of the Covid-19 vaccine before 14 days of travel date, however, can enter Bangladesh from these 11 countries with a 14 days strict home quarantine period after the arrival, CAAB announced in its latest circular issued on Monday late night.

In case of unvaccinated passengers or those who have not completed full doses of the vaccine, no entry to Bangladesh will be allowed from these 11 countries, it added.

However, if any Covid-19 symptoms are detected or observed on arrival, passengers will be sent to government authorised hospital for a further check-up, or depending on the nature and intensity of infection, passengers will be sent to isolation at government nominated facilities or hotels at their own expenses, it continued.

Bangladeshi expatriates residing in these 11 countries and Bangladeshi expatriates/citizens who visited there during the last 15 days, are allowed to come to Bangladesh provided that they have the special approval or authorisation from the ministry of foreign affairs of Bangladesh.

Bangladeshi seafarers and engineers of ships, who have signed-off from their ships from these 11 countries within the previous 15 days of travel to Bangladesh, can return provided they possess proper and valid documentary evidence about their profession and signing-off, CAAB added in the circular.

On arrival in Bangladesh, in both the cases above, they have to complete a mandatory 14-day institutional quarantine at government-nominated hotels at the passenger's own expense. And, proof of hotel booking shall be produced during check-in, it added.
